Staff Job Descriptions

Program Staff (three positions available)

1. Assist the Program Director in his or her responsibilities.
2. Participate in group activities when not filling other assigned roles.
3. Assist in cleaning camp after campers have left.
4. May live in cabins with campers and counselors.
5. Must be at least 18 years old or a high school graduate.
6. Serve in three or more roles described below.

  • Camp newspaper editor—Create a short camp newspaper for each week using camper articles, pictures from the photographer, and notes from camp pastors to highlight the theme for the week. Editor should be comfortable using a word processor.
  • Crafts Director—Plan, prepare and lead appropriate craft activities for each week
  • Drama Coordinator—Plan dramas appropriate for the camp theme, direct staff in preparing for them, and see that they are performed at appropriate times. This does not need to be a program staff person. A counselor or Summer Director can fill this role.
  • Kitchen helper—Assist cooks if there isn’t enough help in the kitchen, help with clean up after each meal, and oversee L.I.T. staff who will clean up after each meal.
  • Nature activities director—Plan with the director all nature activities, gather materials and lead activities.
  • Photographer/Videographer—Take pictures of each cabin group and each whole camp group and of various activities throughout the week, work with newspaper editor to put pictures into the camp newspaper, inquire as to how many cabin group pictures campers want to buy and see to their copies, distribution, and payment. Videographer will be responsible for taking video of various activities throughout the week, editing a video of
    the week to make available for campers to purchase. This position must have experience in video editing. Talk to Matt for more details about this position.
  • Recreation director—Lead all theme related activities as planned by director, plan and
    lead all other recreation games.
  • Ropes course director—Plan and lead ropes course activities. Rope course leader should have some experience with the ropes course, however some training will be available.
  • Water front director—Tests campers wanting to swim in the deep area, monitor swimmers at all times, assign an adult assistant to help monitor swimmers, make sure all posted rules are observed, be responsible for any water equipment, see to the safety of campers and staff during all swim and boating times. Must be at least 18 years old and a certified lifeguard. Lifeguard training may be available.
  • Worship Leader—Plan and lead music at Bible Study time, camp fire, and whenever music is needed. This does not need to be a program staff person. A counselor or Summer Director can fill this role.
  • Camp Store Manager—Manage camper spending money by using a computer program
    during daily drink breaks and weekly camp store times.

Counselor (3 female positions/3 male positions)

  1. Live with a cabin group and supervise their activities at all times, promoting good cabin spirit, and being an example in participating, cooperating, and exercising Christian love and care.
  2. Develop a relationship with each camper, and be aware of their needs. Provide leadership and guidance which promotes Christian growth.
  3. A counselors’ primary responsibility is the well-being of their cabin members.
  4. See to their safety, assist them in interpersonal relationships with other campers, challenge them to Christian commitment, encourage them to participate and be alert to teaching opportunities, and discourage unacceptable behavior.
  5. Lead evening devotions with cabin group and discussion groups after each Bible Study.
  6. Utilize the out-of-doors in such a way that campers will learn to respect and admire it.
  7. Oversee leader in training who lives with cabin group.
  8. Assist in cleaning camp after campers have left.
  9. Must be at least 18 years old or a high school graduate.

Leaders in Training—L.I.T. (up to 3 female positions/3 male positions)

  1. Participate in orientation and 3 weeks of camp.
  2. Live as a part of a cabin group, assisting counselor as needed.
  3. Lead one cabin devotions each week.
  4. Help in the kitchen as needed.
  5. Participate in leadership training sessions.
  6. Lead activities as assigned.
  7. Assist counselor with clean up after campers have left.
  8. Must be 16 or 17 year old.

*The L.I.T. program is a volunteer program.
